有两种本地电源IC:(1)线性型和(2)开关型。电路设计人员可以正确选择这些功率IC并将其放置在正确位置以最大限度提高设备的性能。
线性型包括串联稳压器(通常为LDO和3端稳压器)和并联稳压器。生产低噪声、高精度本地电源只需利用很少的外部零件,制作简单、成本较低。但是损耗很高(效率低),且只能使用降压型。特别是并联稳压器的效率非常低,目前往往不使用。
