Toshiba Collaborates with MikroElektronika to Create Evaluation Boards for Motor Driver ICs

August 6, 2020

Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation

TOKYO—Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation ("Toshiba") today announces collaboration with MikroElektronika (“Mikroe”), a designer and manufacturer of hardware and software tools used to develop embedded systems. Customers are now able to evaluate Toshiba motor driver ICs on Click boards™, evaluation boards manufactured and sold by Mikroe.

Toshiba’s highly integrated motor driver ICs, with a history stretching back more than four decades, are recognized across the industry for their utility in motor control systems. Toshiba provides a rich lineup of motor driver ICs for controlling brushed DC motors, brushless DC motors and stepper motors in diverse applications, including industrial equipment, home appliances, and office automation equipment.

Toshiba motor driver ICs can now be easily evaluated using Click boards™ along with circuit diagram and sample software provided by Mikroe. All Click boards™ are fully compatible with any development board that hosts mikroBUS™ socket.

Five new motor control Click boards™ featuring Toshiba motor driver ICs will be available from today, August 6, covering brushed DC motors, brushless DC motors and stepper motors.

For Brushed DC Motors

DC MOTOR 6 CLICK – Based on Toshiba’s TB67H451FNG IC.

A brushed DC motor drive Click board™ featuring TB67H451FNG, an advanced PWM chopper-type integrated DC motor driver. Toshiba’s BiCD manufacturing process allows the IC to support a wide range of supply voltages, from 4.5V to 44V. The low ON-resistance of H-bridge MOSFETs helps to deliver larger current with lower heat generation. TB67H451FNG provides four motor operation modes: forward, reverse, short brake and stop.

DC MOTOR 14 CLICK – Based on Toshiba’s TB67H450FNG IC.

TB67H450FNG is a PWM chopper type DC motor driver. It supports a wide range of power supply voltages from4.5V to 44V, while delivering high current up to 3.5A. TB67H450FNG’s low ON-resistance MOSFETs help in achieving lower heat generation which leads to an efficient motor drive. Its simple two-input control allows the motor to be used in four operation modes: forward, reverse, short brake and stop.

For Brushless DC Motors

BRUSHLESS 7 CLICK – Based on Toshiba’s TC78B009FTG IC.

TC78B009FTG can drive a 3-phase BLDC motor without any need for Hall sensors. It also features built-in closed-loop speed control function that regulates and maintains motor rotational speed under dynamic voltage and load fluctuations.
Built-in non-volatile memory (NVM) allows the user to create and save a speed profile. Together, these features eliminate the need of an external speed controller.

For Stepper Motors

STEPPER 10 CLICK – Based on Toshiba’s TB67S128FTG IC.

TB67S128FTG is a two-phase bipolar stepping motor driver with an output rating of 50V/5A. Toshiba’s innovative technology process results in low power consumption with low on-resistance of 0.25Ω for driver MOSFETs. It provides simplified control through step control inputs that can be used to drive stepper motor in both directions with step sizes from a full step to 1/128 step. It also provides advance current detection system, active gain control and multiple error detection functions.

STEPPER 8 CLICK – Based on Toshiba’s TC78H670FTG IC.

TC78H670FTG is a bipolar stepping motor driver IC, which supports step sizes from a full step to 1/128 step. Smaller step sizes, like 1/128 step, reduce noise and vibration produced by the motor and smooth motor operation. The IC supports a voltage range from 2.5V to 16V, suited to USB or battery powered applications.
